December 6, 2002 "Spanish
Holliday Dinner"
A member subsidized event at the Olive Tree with great Spanish Food and Wine,
this event featured the wines of Freixenet including not only great sparklers
but the still wines of the Heridad Collection.

14, The Wines of Autumn
Do you know what wine you will serve your guests on Thanksgiving and
Christmas? Join us for just the right answer. An exciting preview of
more than 36 of the hottest wines - plus gourmet food prepared by board members

Over 300 Beers, great food, live music, cooking with beer demo, and silent
auction to benefit Starkey Inc.

September 22, "The Cattle Crawl"
Our annual progressive dinner sponsored by the Kansas Beef Council.
Great food and wine and some of Wichita's finest restaurants. We start
and end at Yia Yia's and ride the trolley to each venue. Click

The wines of Barefoot Cellars paired with the gourmet food of Black

12, Better Cheddar at the Wichita Marriott
Nearly 70 members and guests explored the possibilities in
cheese and wine pairing. Whether,
as the fourth course of a gourmet dinner or as a part of a casual meal, cheese
has always been a slice of the good life. Ron
Shalinsky, owner of The Better Cheddar in Kansas City, presented an outstanding
array of cheeses from around the world. The
cheeses were paired with five different wines: Sancerre, Riesling, Zinfandel,
Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauternes. Photos
July 17, Umami - The
fifth basic taste. Airport Hilton
Wichita AIWF was honored to host Gary Beauchamp, PhD.,
presenting his AIWF National Program: UMAMI-THE FIFTH BASIC TASTE? Gary is the
director of the Monell Chemical Senses Center of Philadelphia at the University
of Pennsylvania and the author of more than 250 publications. Great hands
on seminar, followed by great food and wine. Photos

22, Annual Wines of Summer, WSU Ulrich Museum of Art
Another great event with more than 45 wines and special food
prepared by the AIWF Board of Directors. Classic Mexican art, paired with
a traditional Mariachi band made for a special food & wine event. Check

May 23, The
AIWF Annual Membership Meeting
This years event was at Tallgrass Country Club and included a free dinner and
some great wines...all FREE to members. A productive meeting that
recruited some new potential board members and committee helpers. Great
food, wine and fun for 62 attendees.

The best Winefest ever, with great attendance, a new event;
The Old Town Walkabout, and a record contribution to the Guadalupe Clinic.

14th, The Wines of Yvon Mau - A Bordeaux Bash!
A sampling of 12 new release wines from Bordeaux followed by
a Bistro style meal with some casual French wines to match. A unique
opportunity to pre-order these special 2000 vintage wines for future delivery.

23, "Buffalo Trace Bourbon Dinner"
This was a truly spectacular evening. A chance to
sample the best Bourbons from Buffalo Trace Distillery, "The 2000
Distillery of the Year." Ken Weber from the distillery presented
an interesting bit of history and lore about the property and gave a brief
description of each bourbon. The menu, by Chef Peter at the Marriott,
incorporating some of the bourbons and paired with each - was innovative and
artistically presented. Each guest received one of several
"Bourbon" gifts including; T-shirts, Flasks, and the grand prize...
a bottle of Buffalo Trace, thanks to Ken Weber.

January 24th, "Que Syrah, Syrah"
A unique opportunity to sample eight of the finest examples of
Syrah or Shiraz, from around the world. The Paul Jaboulet Aine Crozes-Hermitage
Les Jalets 1999 (Wine Spectator Top 100 list), Peter Lehmann Barossa Shiraz 1999
and the Cline Los Carneros Syrah 1999 all received a Spectator rating of 90
points...and that's just three of the eight!
To compliment the wines, an individual plate of hors d'oeuvres will be served,
including pork tenderloin, lamb chop, mushroom en croute and imported cheeses.
