This amazing taste experience is led by Riedel Crystal Regional Manager Doug Reed. He will introduce you to the world of Riedel glasses — Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Burgundy and Bordeaux — with a tasting of wines from Winefest Sponsor Standard Beverage. As an added bonus, you will get to take the four glasses home with you as part of the Riedel Vinum glass tasting kit and to “recognize that a glass is not just a glass, but an instrument of pleasure and enjoyment.”

Attendees to the seminar will be done in time to attend the Midwest Winefest Grand Tasting and Silent & Live Auctions, starting at 6 p.m. Glasses will be held until after the tasting is over. Seminar is presented by The Wichita Chapter of The American Institute of Wine & Food and you must call 682-5502 for reservations. Portion of the proceeds to benefit the Guadalupe Health Foundation and the AIWF Wichita Chapter Culinary Scholarship program.

*Guests at the seminar won’t have to wait in line to attend the Midwest Winefest Grand Auction starting at 6 p.m.; they will be escorted directly to the event once the Seminar is over.

A person interested in wine is led by color, bouquet and taste, but often the glass is not considered as an instrument to convey the message of the wine. Over the years, Riedel acquired some interesting scientific explanations as to why the shape of a glass influences the bouquet and taste of alcoholic beverages. The first discovery was made while enjoying wine. The same wine displayed completely differently characteristics when served in a variety of glasses. The differences were so great that experienced connoisseurs were made to believe that they were tasting a different wine.

“The finest glasses for both technical and hedonistic purposes are those made by Riedel. The effect of these glasses on fine wine is profound. I cannot emphasize enough what a difference they make.”

(Robert M. Parker, Jr. The Wine Advocate)
